Newark Liberty International Airport is situated 2 miles to the south of Newark and over 15 miles to the southwest of New York City, the airport being operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The main airport runway is 3,353 metres long with a mixed asphalt and concrete surface.
Newark Liberty International Airport is one of three airports serving New York City and was actually the city’s first, dating back to the late 1920’s. It has naturally enjoyed major investment over the years, driven by New York’s continuing expansion. Such has been its development that Newark Airport is now almost as popular as JFK with travellers from the UK, with many flights going there and links to Manhattan being quite straightforward..
Driving to/from Newark Airport
There are a number of routes linking the airport with New York and its surroundings. Here we shall just look at a couple of the main ones. The most popular one for visitors, as it goes to Manhattan, is along I-78, and with very clear signs showing the exits for the airport it is hard to get wrong.
Linking the airport to New Jersey is I-95, also known as the New Jersey Turnpike. The road follows a north/south line through New Jersey basically, and again the signs for the airport are very clear, with both exit 13A and 14 suitable.
